Antalya Commodity Exchange has organized a meeting about the issue with participation of ACE members, Local Ministry of Agriculture, West Mediterannian Union of Harvester Operators, merchants and company owners.

‘Suni-bug (Eurygaster spp.) is the greatest problem’

İbrahim Köseoğlu, the Deputy Chairman of ACE has stated in the meeting that the suni-bug problem has to be solved ‘before’ the harvest season, “Suni-bug is the most important problem. We have to vary our seeds against suni-bug damage; we have to educate growers; the issues dealt with harvester operators must be handled and the rain problem which occurs just before harvest must be overcome.”

‘The growers must control their own selves’

Chief of Extension Services  of the Local Ministry of Agriculture Ali Ulvi Büyüksoy has said that they have organized several education programs for the growers but very little of the growers, attended, “Our structure may not be enough for a whole control mechanism. We hope that growers control their own selves.” Kadir Sarıcalar, Head of West Mediterannian Union of Harvester Operators spoke as follows, “The price we get for an acre is not enough. It should be revised and our services must be paid regularly.”

In the end of the meeting, participants aggrred upon these issues; humid wheat will never be harvested before dried. A program for varying wheat-seeds will be applied in the region. Early harvesting will be banned. Growers will be educated. Harvester operators will be controlled. Locakl Ministry of Agriculture will work harder against suni-bug (Eurygaster spp.) damage.
